Sonbhadra District is located in the South Eastern part of the Vindhyachal Mountains. It is the second Largest District of Uttar Pradesh comprising over 100 Thousand Hand Knotted Carpet Weavers.

Sonbhadra Cluster is world renowned for Handmade Carpet, Durries & Rugs work of Mughal origin. It has the largest concentration of Carpet and Durrie artisans in the world with over 1,00,000 women home based weavers located in the district of Sonbhadra Carpet Belt. The Carpet & Durrie clusters of Sonbhadra have experienced limited growth in spite of potential market opportunity and its core competence of a large skill base. The production base is extremely fragmented and there is a lack of critical manufacturing infrastructure. The cluster has been confined to the low end of the international market for final production with limited product offerings, low quality and low margin realizations.
